The Taste of Words

Do words have a taste?

They definitely have a different feel to them when you hear them, speak them, and read them.

Last week I listened to an audiobook for the first time in a while, and I forgot how much enjoyment I get from being read to.

I found myself listening to the sentence structure, the minute details, the vocabulary of the author rather than thinking about the plot or the actions.

It was meditative, and it was informative.

If you want to read more but are feeling too stressed to slow down and pick up something to read with your eyes, try reading with your ears.

If you want to be a better writer, you have to start with being a reader. Then, try to be a better reader, reading like a writer from time to time, looking deeper than the surface.

And remember, don’t be afraid to read widely, either. You can always put a book down if you don’t like it, but you won’t get anything out of it if you never pick it up at all.

Happy reading!
