What Can You Accept?
If it’s working, it’s working, if it’s not, it’s not. Accept it and move on.
I was chatting with a therapist friend of mine about anxiety, and life, and as soon as he said this I realized it relates to writing so much that I needed to share it with all of you.
One of the best things you can do for your writing is to learn acceptance.
- Accept that your writing journey will not always look like what you want it to.
- Accept that the story you have in your mind may not come out as you want it to.
- Accept that you can have a great story but still have room for it to grow.
- Accept that there will always be someone to criticize your writing. That’s ok. Their opinion of you is none of your business.
- Accept that the writing you have in mind may just not work. You can move on.
- Accept that you have a story you need to put down for a while or forever.
- Accept that your writing progress will not always happen on your timeline.
This last one has been hard for me. I have been revising my novel (aka rewriting 80% of it because I realized I had to change a very big plot point for the main character’s obstacle to make sense) and I feel like I should just be done by now. But, it’s not my timeline, it’s my novel’s so I chip away instead, accepting what I can not control and believing in my mission.
