Writing Is A Form Of Self-Care
By now you are familiar with journaling as a way to process your thoughts and navigate big emotions. But have you ever considered creative writing as self-care?
Allowing our brain space to flesh out new scenarios, to play with new ideas, can be so freeing. And often, giving ourselves that break helps us recover and prepare to see the world with another perspective.
With creative writing you can go the fiction route (you get to make stuff up!) and play around with settings, dialogue, time and space...the written word is your oyster.
And if you’re more of a nonfiction writer, you can still be as creative as ever, playing with tone, formatting, details, etc.
The best thing about writing? There are no rules, there is no pressure. You never have to share your writing with anyone, it can be just for you. And if you ask me, self-care is when you do something just for yourself, just for your relaxation, just for your mental wellness.
If you want to schedule some time for self-care writing, join one of my weekly writing sprints! Or, if you want to do your own thing in your own time, try google searching "creative writing prompts” and giving yourself at least a 15-30 minute block of time. You won’t regret it, I promise.
